Our affordable annual membership is just Two Pounds (Yes, that's correct - £2.00 per member, per plot, per year). We also offer associate membership (for those without a plot but who nevertheless wish to become members, or for spouses, partners, etc.) again at just £2.00 per member, per plot, per year.
As association members, we share a common interest in both the development of our own plots and skills/techniques, as well as the overall management of our sites by the allotment authorities. We frequently lobby Barnstaple Town Council on the real issues affecting our members, and have recently enjoyed demonstrable success following both the 'great water charges debate' and the raising of serious concerns about access and security at the Sunnybank site. Our membership roll has increased as a direct result of these current and very important issues, and we look forward to other Barnstaple allotment holders joining us soon in order to achieve maximum representation.
And that's not all! As an organisation, we get involved in plenty of other activities such as running a produce stall at the annual Pilton Green Man festival, assisting with the 'Tidy Up Our Town' initiative run by the Barnstaple Town Council, holding competitions (we have even started a children's gardening competition at the Sunnybank site). We are also in the process of developing links with several local primary schools as a way of getting children interested in gardening and the natural world at an early age.
Every other month, we hold friendly and informative meetings (in the Corner House pub), have 'seed swaps' and generally put the '(allotment) world to rights'! And commencing at the meeting on 20th May 2015, we will be holding a regular draw, with a single prize of a £10.00 Value House gardening voucher. Each BAA member will have a ticket in the the draw, so you don't necessarily have to be present at the meeting in order have a chance of winning. But why not come along anyway - enjoy the fun and get involved!
Members are able to obtain monthly discounts on gardening-related products from Value House Stores, and benefit from other subsidies offered by the association - thus making your membership really great value!
An added benefit of membership is the option of having affordable Public/Product Liability insurance cover of up to £5M by individual member affiliation with the South West Counties Allotment Association (SWCAA) which is also based in Barnstaple. Their email address is [email protected]
Membership year - 1st April to 31st March
